CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Fleet opened their home slate on Saturday, June 1 with a win as they hosted Discoveries SC at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium.
After being on the road for two straight games to start the 2019 season, the Fleet (2-1) welcomed the opportunity to play their first home game in the comfy confines of Patriots Point. It was a pretty one-sided affair with Charleston outshooting Discoveries 20-4 throughout 90 minutes. Despite the lopsided advantage in shots, the Fleet would only manage to beat the dynamic Discoveries GK Ruthie Jones once in the 1-0 affair. It was a Hannah Betfort screamer from the corner of the 18 that was the difference in the two sides. Betfort received a pass out wide from Mackenzie Crittenberger, she beat her defender inside and hit a curler to the top corner that Jones could do nothing about. It was a beautiful goal in a rather frustrating offensive performance for the Fleet. The atmosphere was electric all evening as the stands were packed with fans and the Laing Middle School band played a fun set for all to enjoy.
The Fleet will be back in action at home on Tuesday, June 4 as they take on the Charlotte Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm and tickets can be purchased online or at the gate. Adult tickets are $7 and Children are $5. The game will also be livestreamed for those fans that cannot make it to the match. You can catch that stream on Charleston Fleet YouTube Channel. Fans can also follow the action on the official Twitter account @CharlestonFleet
