CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Fleet were back it as they hit the road for the second consecutive week and played against the Charlotte Eagles in a game that was part of a triple header hosted by Discoveries SC in Rock Hill, SC.  The three game set-up featured Charleston Fleet vs Charlotte Eagles, Discoveries SC vs Asheville City SC and a men’s USL 2 game at the end of the night.

On Saturday, May 25 the Fleet (1-1) headed north to tangle with the Charlotte Eagles for the first time in club history. The Eagles had been a storied program in the USL W-League for many years before taking a short hiatus and are playing in their first season in the WPSL. Even in sweltering heat, the attacking quality of the Eagles side showed brightly over the course of the 90 minutes and they were rewarded for their efforts to the tune of two goals with no answer from the Fleet. It was a just result for a team that created more chances and looked the more dangerous side. Coach Michner was impressed with what she saw from the Eagles and exposed some areas that needed to be addressed by her own team. “We (Fleet) were not at our best in this one. Credit to the Eagles as they were a little sharper in the attacking third and made us pay as we were a little lax at times defensively. Playing a mid-day game on turf is not ideal, but no excuses as it’s the same conditions for both teams. I am looking forward to the return game in Charleston in a few weeks as I think we will give a better representation of ourselves and, hopefully, create more on our end.”

The Fleet will be back in action next Saturday, June 1 as they play their home opener at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm and tickets can be purchased online or at the gate. Adult tickets are $7 and Children are $5. The game will also be livestreamed for those fans that cannot make it to the match. You can catch that stream on Charleston Fleet YouTube Channel.  Fans can also follow the action the official Twitter account @CharlestonFleet
