CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Fleet hosted a pair of WPSL matches at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium this weekend and the Fleet blew past the competition. It was a tale of two different games as the Fleet relied on it stellar defense on Saturday while Sunday it was all about the attack.

In the first game of the weekend, the Fleet hosted Oak City FC and it was a defensive battle as neither side could put the ball in the back of the net thru the first 45 minutes of play. Fifteen minutes into the second half Kayla Christian would bury one and Charleston would take the lead. Shortly thereafter, Raymara Barreto, would hit the crossbar off a powerful header and the lead would stay at one. In the end, that Christian goal was all that the Fleet needed to win and pick up a crucial 3pts off of second place Oak City.

Sunday brought more sunshine and a forecast for a lot of goals as the Fleet would lace them up against the Greensboro Lady Dynamo. The crowd would not be disappointed as the Fleet went out on the attack from the outset. A Breanna Dewaal corner kick found a high-flying Mackenzie Smith early in the match and the Fleet were on top! Samantha Damante and Sarah Cardamone would add to the tally before halftime and it was 3-0 at the break. Amber Tripp would keep the party going as she scored the 4th goal of the game moments into the second half and Cardamone would continue her field day and finish with 3 goals and 2 assists. Greensboro would get on the board late, but it was of no consequence as the Fleet would run out to a 6-1 win.

The Charleston Fleet lead the Carolina Division after a perfect 7-0-0 start and have a 9pt lead at the top of the table. Charleston will be back in action on July 8th and 9th as they head up to Charlotte, North Carolina two matches. Fans can follow all the Fleet action on Twitter as we bring you live updates from the road! The Fleet will then play their final regular season home game on Friday, July 14 at 7:00pm at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium against Beaufort County FC.
