CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Fleet played the role of the visitors for the second week in a row as the team traveled down to Hilton Head Island to face another new franchise in Beaufort County FC. In the battle of first year programs it was the Fleet who earned the victory and kept their undefeated start to the season intact.
Remi Olalere opened the scoring in the 25th minute as she netted her third goal of the season to put the Fleet out in front. Charleston would create more chances in the first half to add to their lead, but neither team could break thru and the halftime whistle blew with Fleet holding on to a narrow 1-0 lead. Early in the second half BCFC would get one back to level the score at 1-1. It would be the first goal conceded by Charleston all season. However, Olalere would not be denied a 2nd as she put the Fleet back in front with 24 minutes remaining in the game. Breanna Dewaal would add a third shortly thereafter and the Fleet were in total command of the game. At 3-1 up and with only two minutes left Charleston would give up a penalty kick and BCFC would convert. Time would run out only seconds later and as the dust settled the Fleet would win 3-2 and garner their 5th straight victory in WPSL play.
The Charleston Fleet lead the Carolina Division after a perfect 5-0-0 start and have a 3pt lead at the top. Charleston will be back in the friendly confines of Patriots Point this weekend as they host Oak City FC on Saturday, June 24th at 4pm followed by a 1pm Sunday tilt with the Carolina Lady Dynamo. Fans can purchase their tickets online or at the gate: $5 Adults and $3 Children
