For Immediate Release:
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Fleet hit the road over the weekend for their first away matches in WPSL play. The Carolina Division leaders opened the pair of weekend fixtures in Greensboro, NC on Saturday before heading to Raleigh, NC on Sunday for the final match of the road trip.
On Saturday, the Fleet played the Carolina Dynamo in the first game of a double header at Macpherson Stadium and it was all Charleston from the outset. Two quick strikes for Remi Olalere in the first half would put the game out of reach and the Fleet would sail away to victory over the Dynamo with the final score 3-0.
On Sunday, it would be a top of the table clash as the Fleet would meet another undefeated WPSL side in Oak City United at WakeMed Soccer Park. After another flying start to the match for the Fleet, Sarah Cardamone would strike first and give Charleston a 1-0 lead after only 13 minutes. Both teams would trade jabs for the remainder of the half and the Fleet would go into the break up a goal. Ten minutes into the second half Amber Adams would double the lead and Charleston never looked back. The match would finish 2-0 for the Fleet and Oak City would drop its first points of the season.
Two wins on the road for Charleston puts them firmly atop the Carolina Division with a 4-0-0 record. With 12 points, the Fleet has opened up a 6 point lead on the rest of the division, but there is a lot of action still to come in this WPSL season.
The Charleston Fleet will hit the road again next weekend as they head to Hilton Head, SC to take on Beaufort County FC in the only match of the week for either team. The match kicks off at 6:00pm on Saturday, June 17 at Hilton Head Prep. Follow along on Twitter @CharlestonFleet for live match updates from Hilton Head.
